"I Alone" (2020) is a new collaborative work from Meta Grgurevič and JAŠA, a performance and site-specific installation within the show "Meta Grgurevič: Impossible Machines" at Künstlerhaus, Halle für Kunst & Medien. The project brings together Grgurevič's vision, a childhood memory of her grandmother knitting, an image of solace and nostalgia and JAŠA's concept "I Alone." The new work creates a unique and fleeting situation that will inhabit the installation only for the opening event of the show, marking the consequential absence and necessary interpretations with the following performances on every Sunday and selected dates as one of the main conceptual pillars of the show; the conception and expression of time and space, as seen or inhabited.

"The deafening silence of this body’s room. These corridors I’ve walked so many times that I take blind turns to fake my disappearances. With time, I think it is this losing oneself in somebody else. Drifting away within somebody else's mind and body. To walk loudly or quietly, gently down the halls, those precious moments I can inhabit within. It is true, in my understanding, my loneliness brings others together. In my mind, I bring them all together, regardless of their flaws, egos, manias and obsessions. We can play. We all quarrel, quietly, only to add some spice to the daily ongoings. Various threads entwine in a waving harmony, a symphony of voices, of colorful expressions. A painting seen when I look deeply into my eye. A collection of fragments of time and space, my masterfully crafted artwork. The clay I mold within." JAŠA, excerpt from "I Alone" script (2020)

Meta Grgurevič (*1979 Ljubljana, lives in Ljubljana) completed her postgraduate studies in painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice in 2007. While still at the academy, she collaborated with Jasmina Cibic, Mara Ambrožič, and Mary Favaretto in the Passaporta art collective, in which they were addressing the issue of transit spaces. Following the breakup of the collective, she began developing independent projects and maintained the tradition of collaborating with artists from various fields.
The works of Meta Grgurevič have been presented at numerous group and solo exhibitions: Among other, she participated at the 56th Venice Biennial (2015) as part of the project UTTER of the artist Jaša at the Pavilion of Slovenia; at the 13th Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space (2015), representing Slovenia with the stage design of the ballet performance "Tristan and Isolde"; at the 30th International Biennial of Graphic Arts Ljubljana (2013) with co-artist Urša Vidic, where they received a special mention of the international jury for their project "Mechanical Trinkets / Silver Thread" (2013); at the 31st International Biennial of Graphic Arts (2015), where her project "Timekeepers" (2015) received the Audience Award. In 2016, she was a resident artist at the Mahler & LeWitt Studios in Spoleto, Italy, supported by The Marignoli di Montecorona Foundation. In 2017, her project Silenzio in co-production with the Slovene National Theatre Opera and Ballet Ljubljana opened the 32nd International Biennial of Graphic Arts as well as the new exhibition venue Švicarija Creative Centre in Ljubljana. The artist has exhibited her works in Slovenia, Italy, Austria, Finland, the US, and elsewhere.

Jaša Mrevlje-Pollak aka. JAŠA (*1978 Ljubljana, lives in Ljubljana and New York) studied at the Academy in Venice (Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia), where he graduated in 2004 with distinction and obtained second stage diploma at the same institution in 2007 (con elodee). Since 2008 he is heading various experimental training programs at this institution. During his studies he was a member of the international art group Crash in Progress. In 2005 he embarked on a completely autonomous path on which he has continued and created diversified and multimedia practice. His works has been exhibited since then internationally. In 2015, he represented Slovenia at the 56th Venice Biennale. Trained as a painter, he combines the isolation of creativity in the studio with collaborations with other artists and groups from diverse fields (from contemporary multimedia visual practices, architectural approaches and principles, sound art and music, and, last but not least, performance) in multi-layered and integrated projects, where he has put the relationship to the audience and with the audience at the true center of artistic creation.
