"VR-Giants" - Immersive Gaming

Games Event

With game developer Wolfgang Tschauko

"VR Giants" is a local multiplayer VR game that enables the player to use the body of another player as an extension for the level. Goliath and David are both trapped in a lava tube and have to work together in order to escape. Goliath has to offer his body as bridge and platform, so that David can reach the keys, which he needs to open the door to freedom.

Game developer Wolfgang Tschauko brings his game “VR Giants” to the Künstlerhaus, Halle für Kunst & Medien. Visitors can slip into the role of David and Goliath and explore new worlds. Besides, they can compare the use of virtual reality in the gaming-field to that in the field of arts in the exhibition “Artificial Paradise? Immersion in Space and Time.”

Wolfgang Tschauko (*1987 Klagenfurt, lives in Graz) completed the psychotherapeutic propaedeutic at Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz, studied media technology & design at FH Hagenberg and interaction design at FH Joanneum. For his Master thesis he developed the cooperative VR game “Goliath VR.” It won the 2017 SAGA Audience Choice Award at Button Festival and the Reversed Best Concept Award and was shown at numerous festivals. The original version of “Goliath VR” used a Kinect sensor to create an individual portrayal of the player. Since 2018, the project is being funded by the AWS in order to achieve an adaptation for commercially available VR devices, and was recently renamed “VR Giants.”
