Katalog

Florian Hecker / John McCracken

This catalogue will be published on the occasion of the exhibition Florian Hecker / John McCracken 2015 at Künstlerhaus, Halle für Kunst & Medien and documents the attempt to survey the main white cube exhibition space as an experiential space with a special view to the differences and hierarchies of seeing and hearing by a dialogically complementary dual showing of the German artist and computer composer Florian Hecker and the American sculptor John McCracken. This special constellation of two significant autonomous individual positions in contemporary was certainly an exhibition opportunity in which a spatial and temporal situation was generated, which in turn accelerated content- and form-related associations between these two media-laden oeuvres. It defined a framework, where a shifting of the boundary and contact zones in which sculpture and sound interacted could be immediately aesthetically experienced within a space and the visitor could become sensitized to the conditions, qualities, and intensities of the two mediatic forms.

Beside a curatorial introduction by Christian Egger, this publication, published by Sternberg Press in Berlin, contains a comprehensive essay by the author and curator João Ribas (Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art, Porto). The cover has been designed by Florian Hecker using an Objectness Measure Algorithm, NORM in Zurich took care for the graphic concept.
