In dialog with junior curator Jana Franze, the artists of this year’s “Salon Steiermark” will guide through the exhibition. At the center of attention will be the individual artistic work process, the subjective perception of presented works, different definitions of what constitutes an artwork as well as the specific conditions of exhibiting.

The Parisian salon was an exhibition of accomplishments, from which the current quality standards of art could be deduced. Following its own institutional history, the “salon” in Graz is a survey of the contemporary practice of artists who are part of the Styrian artist associations. The artistic positions that are displayed in the exhibition have been selected from numerous submissions through a selection process by an external specialist jury.
