The day after the opening of “Motivation and Personality”, the artist from Glasgow, Stuart Middleton in conversation with junior curator Jana Franze provides insights into the concept and the background of the exhibition. Next to his artistic career and biography he will talk about earlier works, his propensity for writing and the thematic origin of the exhibition. The walk-in installation that was specially created for the Künstlerhaus is oriented by the architecture of a guiding system for the management and handling of livestock in an operational slaughterhouse in England and explores the formative power of social environments and the consumptive potential of relationships. The artist is available for conversation afterwards.

Middleton graduated from the Städelschule in Frankfurt on the Main (2016) and Camberwell College of Art, London (2009). On the occasion of the graduate exhibition “Croissant” at MMK – Museum für Moderne Kunst (Frankfurt on the Main, 2016), Middleton received the graduate award of the Städelschule Portikus e.V..
