Textile Upcycling

Workshop

with Stoffwerkstatt

Arts and crafts is old news – now it’s time for upcycling! In this workshop, we will give your old clothes a new lease of life. Jeans full of holes, a sweater that was washed too hot or baggy shirts—with the right amount of creativity and a sewing machine we will show you how to save old clothes from the garbage can and create your new favorite pieces. Inspiration and starting point is Stuart Middleton’s exhibition “Motivation and Personality”. In the lower exhibition floor of the Künstlerhaus, the artist has created an extensive walk-in structure out of wood and wire, which is coated with old pieces of clothing.

Katharina Bachner (*1990 Graz, lives in Graz) has discovered her passion for craftsmanship early through her apprenticeship as an orthopedic shoemaker. She has the gift to revitalize neglected things. Her passion for beauty and her creative energy can be experienced at the “Stoffwerkstatt”, which she has been running since 2017. There, she offers fabrics, sewing accessories and workshops. Moreover, there are work stations with sewing machines for rent.

Simone Steiner (*1989 Wels, lives in Graz) is a passionate DIY-woman. From A for repairing automobiles, to B for baking bread and C for making cappuccino, the student tries to learn different life skills together with her family, and also how to apply them. At the end of the alphabet, U for upcycling is just another facet in her repertoire.
